The story of:

Billy Pore

This is the story of a boy named Billy.
Billy's family is one of the millions of families living below the poverty line. Whenever Billy sees all the other kids' Really Good™ shoes, he wishes he could have those too. That way, he could fit in with everyone else.

Really Good™ Shoe Store

“If only I had those shoes,” Billy thought, “I'd be able to fit in with everyone.”
“Would anyone really notice if I walked out with a different pair of shoes than the ones I walked in with?”

Billy looks around, until he finds the right shoebox and pulls it out from the shelf. Billy takes a seat on a nearby bench and, after making sure nobody is watching, he quickly swaps the new shoes with his old worn out ones.
After placing the shoe box back on the shelf where he found it, Billy confidently heads for the exit.

Before Billy can reach the exit, an alarm starts blaring and a huge hand grabs his shoulder. Billy turns around to see a security guard towering over him. The guard leads Billy into the store's backrooms and calls Billy's parents. Billy's stomach drops when he hears the guard talking to his mother.

The next day, Billy is once again at school. Yesterday his mother had to leave work early to come clear everything up with the store owner. Billy notices that the other kids are all wearing a different brand of shoes today. Billy couldn't really focus on anything that day. He was too preoccupied with his own thoughts.

This page’s aim is raising awareness toward poverty, including in developed countries – countries where it might seem like less of a problem. Billy is one of many children who are judged everyday by their clothes, phone or shoes. Not everyone is as fortunate as you are.

You can help children like Billy by supporting charities, such as Unicef
